Japan is next on President Donald Trump’s list.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the president told one of its columnists, James Freeman, that it could pick a trade fight with Japan, the world’s third-largest economy.
So far, Japan has been pretty much immune to the U.S. war on trading partners. Trump has maintained an excellent relationship with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, but he warned that it could come to an end if he tells Tokyo how much it needs to pay up.
“[Trump] described his good relations with the Japanese leadership but then added: ‘Of course that will end as soon as I tell them how much they have to pay.'”
Freeman added that Trump is “still very focused on eliminating trade deficits with America’s trading partners.”
Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.
