For the Democrats, it’s Russia. For the Republicans, it’s China.
The two parties have a lot of things in common, particularly on always finding an enemy. Since the 2016 election, the Ds have been embracing neo-McCarthyism. Should the Rs lose the upcoming midterms and the 2020 presidential contest, you can bet they will be going after China in the same way their counterparts have obsessed over Moscow.
We saw a glimpse of this in a recent speech by Vice President Mike Pence, who accused Beijing of “meddling in American democracy.”
Speaking at the Hudson Institute on Thursday, Pence repeatedly slammed China for a number of issues, from IP to economics to monetary policy.
“Despite such reckless harassment, the United States Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows and our national interests demand. We will not be intimidated. We will not stand down,” he said.
