News Story of the Day: Wait a minute…now the Federal Reserve is planning to pause rate hikes in 2019? Did President Donald Trump get to Jerome Powell or something?
The Fed Chair reaffirmed his overall optimism about the U.S. economy, but he listed three potential setbacks that would cause the Fed to hit the pause button on planned rate hikes next year. These include slowing foreign demand, lower fiscal stimulus, and a negative effect on the economy from past rate hikes.
Next month, the Fed is expected to raise interest rates for a fourth time this year. While this is bullish for the national economy and the U.S. dollar, investors will likely comb through the minutes to see what officials are saying about interest rates in the new year.
Chart of the Day: It was a bloodbath out there this week. Oil went bear, Apple crashed, and bitcoin dipped below $6,500. But the most interesting one was the spike in the oil VIX:
Illustration of the Day: So, CNN’s Jim Acosta has gotten his White House press pass back, courtesy of a court ruling. But if this is the choice he has to make on a daily basis, then what’s the point?
Quote of the Day: This isn’t really a flattering quote, but it should be mentioned because it comes from a Daily Wire writer. When writing about how the U.S. wars have cost $6 trillion, author Joseph Curl opines:
“America spends a lot of money on so-called “entitlements,” which are actually the programs that make America America: Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, unemployment and welfare. Most Americans are OK with that. Few object to the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, America’s largest hunger safety net.”
Yikes. When a lot of conservatives or libertarians think of America, they don’t conjure up images of Social Security or welfare schemes.
Tweet of the Day: It might be a parody, but this is really the state of comedy and cable news these days:

Video of the Day: Free speech is still an issue? It seems so on college campuses, which is why Steven Crowder hosted a second Change My Mind segment on “Hate Speech Isn’t Real.” It was interesting to say the least.
