News Story of the Day: Mortgage rates took a nosedive last week, thanks to volatility and turmoil in global financial markets.
According to new data from Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.81 percent, down 13 basis points. This is the largest weekly decrease since January 2015. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.24 percent, down 12 basis points. The five-year Treasury adjustable-rate mortgage averaged 4.09%, down six basis points.
But don’t expect the downward trend to continue.
