Tucker Carlson is the only figure on mainstream television blasting U.S. foreign policy, whether a Republican or a Democrat is in charge. But, for whatever reason, he adopts the populist talking points when it comes to economics.
The recent one came in an interview with Ben Shapiro, who is quite sound when it comes to economics and political correctness but is pretty bad on foreign policy. Tucker said said he would ban trucking companies from installing autonomous vehicles.

His argument is that it would wipe out jobs for many high school educated young men. This is the Lump of Labor Fallacy – the idea that there’s fixed number of jobs.
Just because one industry dies and a new industry is born, it doesn’t mean the annihilation of jobs.
Electricity didn’t suddenly destroy millions of jobs because candlemakers were not the only game in town. The automobile didn’t leave millions of horse and buggy professionals dying on the streets. The computer didn’t cause millions to starve. All of these things started new industries.
Moreover, let’s say truckers do lose their jobs, two things would happen: they would get transferred to other parts of the business (like bank tellers when the ATM was introduced) or they’d find jobs in other sectors.

This interview is also a reminder that if both the left and the right like someone, he was probably terrible (Theodore Roosevelt).
