After decades of empty promises and wishful thinking from every Republican and Democratic administration, the U.S. has finally achieve two things: energy independent and net oil exporter.
In other words, the U.S. has transformed into Saudi America.
Last week, the U.S. sold a net 211,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude and refined products overseas, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The monthly data since 1973 has highlighted how the U.S. has been a net oil importer, relying on foreign markets to power the nation – others say the U.S. imported oil since the days of President Harry Truman. Thanks to the shale-oil revolution, fracking, and government stepping out of the way, the U.S. has seen an energy boom, with production happening all over the country, from the Permian region of Texas and New Mexico to the Bakken in North Dakota.
With a new discovery last week that could meet the nation’s energy needs for decades to come, it’s safe to say that the U.S. will be energy independent for many, many years.
“The U.S. is now a major player in the export market,” said Brian Kessens, who helps manage $16 billion at Tortoise in Leawood, Kansas. “We continue to re-tool our export infrastructure along the Gulf Coast to expand capacity, and you continue to see strong demand globally for crude oil.”
OPEC has finally been brought to its knees.
