Last week, some anonymous account posted a decade-old video of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dancing in college. The poster wrote on Twitter: “America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is.”
The innocent and benign clip wasn’t anything to get upset over, but the mainstream media acted as if conservatives were popping a blood vessel, marching on Capitol Hill, and losing sleep at night.
If you missed it, here’s the one-minute video:
Here are some headlines:
– The New York Times: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Dancing Video Was Meant as a Smear, but It Backfired.”
– MSNBC: “Right attempts to discredit AOC with dancing video.”
– HuffPost: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Dancing Video Smear Backfires.”
– Newsweek: “Conservatives mock Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for college dancing video, everyone else thinks it’s adorable.”
But here is the thing: it is hard to find any right-leaning website taking offense to the video. Sure, there are those on Twitter poking fun at AOC, but her critics are more irked by her dismissal of facts and her inane policy proposals than spinning around for the camera.
This is why it’s hard to believe that any conservative or libertarian published the video. It seems more like her campaign or some left-leaning operative did to create fake outrage.
Conservative strategist Chris Barron made an interesting point:
“[The press is] so desperate to make conservatives look bad that they will invent a controversy when there isn’t one. If you want to look up the very definition of fake news, look no further than the faux controversy over the AOC dancing video. Literally, every single conservative I saw comment on the video said it actually made her more likable, and yet our shameless mainstream media spends days pushing the narrative that conservatives attacked her. Must be nice being a liberal.”
Since she is a leftist, the media will provide cover for AOC at all costs. Even create a fake controversy.
