New York City restaurants are reducing their staffing numbers after the state passed legislation mandating restaurants with 11 or more workers to pay a minimum wage of $15.
On December 31, 2018, New York hiked the wage floor from $13 to $15, which represents the third such hike since December 31, 2016.

Jon Bloostein, the operator of six New York City restaurants with 50 to 110 workers on the payroll at each, said the wage hike is “an immense cost” for his business to shoulder.
“We lost control of our largest controllable expense,” he told CBS News. “So in order to live with that and stay in business, we’re cutting hours.”
Bloostein said he has increased the prices on the restaurant menu and staggered employee start times to cut down on costs.
This comes as The New York Times recently proposed jacking up the minimum wage to $33 an hour.
It seems the left has taken the sarcasm of “why not raise the minimum wage to $100?” a bit too seriously.
