So much for taking the public purse seriously…
After years of bashing former President Barack Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans are just as guilty of drowning in red ink and burying the country deeper into debt.
Case in point, the Treasury Department (via The Wall Street Journal) reported that the budget gap widened 39 percent in the first five months of the fiscal year. This wasn’t a revenue problem, it was a federal spending problem.
During this period from October to February, the federal government ran a $544 billion deficit. This is up from $391 billion the same time a year ago.
Revenues held steady, dipping less than one percent to $1.28 trillion. But federal outlays soared nine percent to $1.8 trillion.
Only in government can you receive a trillion bucks and still post a deficit.
Yet, we will hear during the Democratic primaries how the government needs to tax more because the revenues are not enough to fund their progressive causes.
