It is the 16th anniversary of the Iraq War this week. Despite the bloodshed, regional destabilization, and the cost, we have not learned anything. The U.S. government is still engaged in regime changes, officials are threatening to attack another country that has not attacked America, and the public continues to listen to the likes of Max Boot and Ralph Peters – two men who have never gotten anything right.
Just before the Iraq War, former Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) delivered a remarkable speech on the House floor, warning about how the philosophy of preemption could be adopted by other nations, and potentially used against the United States.
Dr. Paul was one of the few politicians to openly and actively fight against the war in Iraq. He is heroic based on that alone. Here is one of the many speeches that still ring true to this day.
