The White House is actively petitioning the Federal Reserve to slash interest rates. President Donald Trump has been complaining for months that his administration is not getting the same accommodating as the previous administrations, going as far as calling out Fed Chair Jerome Powell in private and public.
Despite denying that Trump had anything to do with its recent decisions, the United States central bank hit the pause button on rate hikes.
There is now talk that there could be a rate cut in the future.
If so, that is the White House’s doing with so many officials calling for a decrease of half-a-percentage point.
Even if the Fed doesn’t cut rates, it might not raise rates ever again, at least not in Larry Kudlow’s lifetime.
The chief White House economic adviser said at an event sponsored by The Hill:
“As I say, we wish they hadn’t raised, I notice from the various reports and so forth that they’ve changed their view, I don’t think rates will rise in the foreseeable future, maybe never again in my lifetime. Whether they (rates) will fall, I don’t mind them falling.”
Kudlow is 71 years of age, so perhaps he is right.
