Francois Voltaire enlightened the world when he said, “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death for your right to say it.”
Today, this basic principle of Western civilization has been tossed to the waste bin, mainly by the left. And, of course, with President Donald Trump encouraging people to “go back where they came from” for expressing their First Amendment rights, it is a philosophy that could encroach on the left, too.
That said, Jeff Jacoby of The Boston Globe summarized modern-day leftism perfectly with this statement:
Liberalism then: I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.
Liberalism now: I not only disagree with what you say, but I’ll threaten you (or your career) with death to keep you from saying it.
Ouch. That’s gotta hurt.
JRATT says
The left uses selective outrage, if someone on the right says something they do not like, it is hang them from the highest tree. If someone on the left say the same thing it is no problem. The D next to their name stands for double or no standard, when it is a progressive doing or saying anything. Free speech for the left / censored speech for everyone else.
