The cultural divide between the United States and China is only widening.
A new Harris poll of kids found that a growing number of American and British kids want to become a YouTuber, while half of Chinese children want to become astronauts.
That’s right.
According to the study, nearly one-third of U.S. children (29 percent) and British school-age kids (30 percent) desire a YouTube career.
Contrast this to the 56 percent of Chinese kids who want to become astronauts.
And just 11 percent of American and British kids dreamed of becoming an astronaut.
Yikes.
The other career choices also showed that people don’t want to do anything: teaching, playing music, or playing sports.

The reality is that just like kids who aspire to be rappers, while anyone can technically be a YouTuber, the chances of success are minimal.
While no one is comparing making videos to working on an oil rig, the sheer workload it takes to establish a platform on YouTube is monumental.
Some would argue that wanting to become an astronaut is even more optimistic, but at least Chinese kids are striving towards something more worthwhile.
The results indicate that western societies are fundamentally broken in that being a YouTuber is so coveted, while Chinese kids are more more cerebrally aspirational in their goals.
Oh, what a world.
