Things are not looking good for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her re-election bid.
Not only is she likely to be opposed by someone who can claim even greater victimhood status – black, woman, AND immigrant – she might not have the dollars to run a campaign.
Citing Federal Election Commission (FEC) data, The Daily Caller reported that just 10 people from her district have donated to her campaign. In total, she has received a little more than $1,500 in the first half of 2019 from those folks. To put into context, the average freshman congressman’s re-election campaign has received more than $100,000 from constituents in the same time period.
But she has outraised all her freshman colleagues because a lot of people outside her area have contributed to her campaign.
Considering that most of her constituents don’t like her, it is understandable why.
From the same report:
They don’t like her. She has a more than 2:1 ratio of unfavorable (50.88%) to favorable (21.37%) in public opinion.
They don’t trust her. Only 10.75% thought she had their best interests in mind in quashing the Amazon deal – 32.60% said she didn’t.
They don’t want her. 33.44% are ready to vote against her, and only 13.30% would vote for her.
Ouch.
But while Republicans are cheering, this is the last thing they should want. She is comedy gold and makes the Democrats look horrific. GOP voters should contribute to her re-election efforts the same way they are donating to Marianne Williamson.
