Nobody cares about the debt anymore. On the cusp of topping $23 trillion, in addition to the $200 trillion in unfunded liabilities and expenditures, Republicans and Democrats will use it, on occasion, as a political football. But, for the most part, nobody really cares.
And why would they? Both parties contributed to the skyrocketing debt. Under President Donald Trump, it is skyrocketing and on pace to top his two predecessors.
The Democrats have only alluded to the national debt once in both of the debates so far, and that was by a guy who just dropped out – Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO).
But South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg briefly discussed the debt in an interview with The Bully Pulpit and he made this revelation:
“I’m, I think, much more concerned about the debt than what is fashionable among most people in my party.”

It may be true because nobody has even mentioned it so far. But considering his proposals – trillions in “free” healthcare and “free” tuition – it is doubtful he worries much about it.
