Do you want to see how free-market healthcare looks like? Well, go visit Walmart in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia!
The big-box retailer is opening a medical care clinic called Walmart Health.
What makes it such a great example of private sector healthcare is that it has a list of prices for medical service, such as routine checkups for $30 and a flu shot for $20.
These locations will be staffed with medical professionals who will perform various medical services, from immunizations to mental health counseling to X-rays.
Although Walmart has not announced any national rollout plans, this will inevitably be a popular service for the retail juggernaut.
No government interventions. No extensive paperwork. No complicated insurance plans.
It is just a medical care provider taking care of the patient at a low price for primary medical, vision, and mental healthcare.
Elise Amez-Droz, a health care policy associate at the Mercatus Center, a think tank based at George Mason University, said it best:
“Walmart Health is proof that the private sector can deliver high-quality, transparently priced health care services without government intervention. The best way to cater to our varying needs is to let patients have the final say in their health care decisions, shopping for better value and reaping the benefits in the form of better care and savings.”
