Instead of constructing a costly and potentially ineffective physical barrier, one that might keep you from leaving rather than keeping people out, why doesn’t the United States government construct a welfare wall?
Fox News is reporting that Los Angeles County paid approximately $1.3 billion in welfare to illegal immigrants in 2015 and 2016.
In 2015, roughly 58,000 families were given $602 million in benefits. A year later, another 64,000 families received $675 million.
In economics, when you subsidize something you get more of it. In America’s case, if you are subsidizing illegal immigration, then you are going to get more of it.
Robert Rector, a Heritage Foundation senior fellow, says that is just a tip of the iceberg. When you factor in education, police, fire, healthcare, and subsidized housing, then illegal immigrants could be receiving as much as $24,000 in government aid.
This, he says, translates to $3 in benefits for every $1 they spend.
