President Donald Trump met with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the White House on Monday.
It was what you would expect: the U.S. central bank saying that it is a non-political institution, President Trump saying that it was a cordial powwow, and everyone claiming that the Fed is an independent entity.
So, pretty uneventful.
But the president did tweet on Tuesday morning:
“At my meeting with Jay Powell this morning, I protested fact that our Fed Rate is set too high relative to the interest rates of other competitor countries. In fact, our rates should be lower than all others (we are the U.S.). Too strong a Dollar hurting manufacturers & growth!”
Oh, boy!
The president is encouraging a weaker dollar, lower interest rates (subzero?), and to mirror the policies of other failed central banks, particularly the European Central Bank (ECB).
What happened to Candidate Trump who hated low interest rates because they hurt average Americans?
