Is the era of easing ever coming to an end? Well, because growth has not exactly been monumental for much of the global economy, central banks continue to print money, cut interest rates, and employ unconventional monetary policy tools.
While this is not new for anyone who has paid attention to monetary policy since the financial crisis, there was an interesting tidbit of information in the piece.
How many interest rate cuts do you think there have been over the last 11 years?
Hundred? 200? 300?
Well, for those keeping count at home, Bloomberg News says that there have been more than 750 cuts since 2008, which have brought rates to historic lows and even into subzero territory.
With central banks buying bonds again, you can expect this number to top 800. Since a recession is inevitable, that figure will probably exceed 1,000 soon.
