By all accounts, the Wuhan coronavirus is getting worse.
In China, more than 170 people have died and there are more than 7,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. What’s worse is that the virus is spreading throughout the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere.
The U.S. got some bad news on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. recorded its first person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus. The report says that the new patient is the spouse of a Chicago woman who brought the infection back from Wuhan, China.
At the time of this writing, the U.S. is now the fifth country where the infection is spreading through person-to-person contact. South Korea, Japan, German, and Thailand are the other nations.
Some other key updates:
– Airlines are suspending or canceling flights to and from China.
– Russia has closed its border.
– Countries are warning of surgical mask shortages.
– There are close to 8,000 cases worldwide.
– Confirmed cases far exceeds that of SARS in 2003.
