So much for his indignation over the hundreds of billions of dollars in waste.
President Donald Trump signed a $908 billion coronavirus relief bill and a $1.3 trillion government funding bill on Sunday, days after he called the legislation “a disgrace.”
The measure will officially expand jobless benefits and keeps the doors of Congress open. Trump stated that he would submit to Congress a “formal rescission request” to remove “wasteful items” from the bill.
Last week, the president delivered a late-night address that slammed the contents of the 5,000 bill that nobody read. It included things like $89 million for new Senate furniture, $10 million for gender programs in Pakistan, and $700 million to the Sudanese government.
He claimed that he would not sign the bill unless it contains direct payments of $2,000 and removed eliminated this waste.
The Democrats immediately stated that it would raise the direct payments, but the leadership had selective hearing because it did not eliminate the billions in waste.
Ostensibly, Americans could only receive $2,000 if the Egyptian military gets $1.3 billion.
Still, even with this deficit-financed bill, President-Elect Joe Biden and the Democrats say they will present another relief bill next month.
Washington is one crazy place.
