California has sacrificed itself to the pandemic gods, appeasing the patron saint of lockdowns, Dr. Anthony Fauci, with severe coronavirus-induced restrictions, like house arrest and mask mandates, since March. Despite these draconian efforts from California’s mini-Maos, The Golden State has received a gold star in COVID-19 infections, with more than 1.7 million confirmed cases. Businesses and residents that were forced to bow down to politicians and regulators were tortured with salt on their wounds when Governor Gavin Newsom (D) and San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) were caught dining at the French Laundry without masks or social distancing. Citizens might have their vengeance because there is a statewide push to recall Gov. Newsom. Judging by the behavior of many other leaders, perhaps there will be other campaigns popping up across the country to prematurely ditch these hypocrites.
The Maine Hypocrisy
Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo (D) was photographed at a wine bar without a mask. While the governor did not break any rules, Raimondo has been wagging the finger by telling everyone to “stay home except for essential activities & wear a mask anytime you’re with people you don’t live with.”
Since when was attending wine and paint night at Barnaby’s Public House in Providence an essential activity? But it’s okay because she reportedly only took her mask off to drink her wine. Even so, what happened to the mantra of “stay home, save lives”?
Rules for thee but not for me? That is the edict of the ruling elite. And, of course, Gov. Raimondo has not been the only politician to be exposed as a hypocrite. From taking vacations to attending country clubs, governors and public health officials have been caught doing the very things they wring their hands about on cable news and Twitter.
COVID Cult Leaders Disobey Their Own Rules
As he lectured his constituents about Listening to the Science™, Austin Mayor Steve Adler (D) was caught committing two of the sins listed by the lockdowners, reported Liberty Nation’s James Fite. The first was when he hosted his daughter’s wedding in early November that violated Stage 3 restrictions since it had 20 guests, double the number you are allowed to have at a gathering. The second was when he hopped on a private jet and flew to Mexico for a vacation. But it is okay because the mayor delivered a heartfelt apology on a Zoom video.
A fellow mayor was exposed as a hypocrite, too. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock (D) requested everyone to “pass the potatoes, not COVID” and stay home during Thanksgiving. It was not even an hour after he sent out one of these urgent tweets that he boarded a plane to visit his wife and daughter in Mississippi. He defended his decision by saying it was “safer” for him to make a solo trip than it was for his family to fly to Denver. But what happened to sacrificing family bonding for the greater good?
Another state leader chose not to “stay home, save lives.” Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D) dined outdoors at a Baton Rouge country club last month. Gov. Edwards was caught in a photo not wearing a mask and talking to somebody at another table. His team attempted to defend the governor, noting that he was “not in violation of his own orders” and that “he had his mask on the entire time that day, except for when he was eating.” But he was eating as he stood up and spoke to another patron?
Sharon Meieran, Multnomah County Commissioner, demanded meaningful action to address the resurgence of the coronavirus in her state of Oregon. Despite recommendations against interstate travel, Meieran chose to visit her condo in Hawaii for a two-week vacation. Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) has been celebrated by the establishment press for his handling of the pandemic, despite leading the nation in deaths nearly a year after the first case. Like his colleagues, he has been telling the public to do the right thing in this fight against an invisible enemy. But he was not required to do so himself, of course. Gov. Cuomo confirmed that his 89-year-old mother and two of his daughters would travel to his residence in Albany for Thanksgiving after nudging residents to not travel during the holidays. After some backlash, his office canceled the family dinner.
Who could forget the block parties when Joe Biden was declared the winner by the mainstream media soon after Election Night? Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) joined a crowd and took off their masks to celebrate President Donald Trump’s electoral defeat. Remember when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was supposedly setup when she got her hair done at a San Francisco salon?
This is just the tip of the iceberg of elected representatives breaking the rules and sending the wrong message. This list also does not include the blatant hypocrisy of officials during the first wave of COVID-19, right New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D)?
Politicians And Diapers
Who would begrudge a father for hosting a wedding for his daughter or visiting another state to see his family? During these chaotic times, who wouldn’t love to vacation in the beautiful state of Hawaii? Should you be tarred and feather for dining at a country club? The problem is when you destroy the livelihood of small business owners, force households into isolation, and demand that everyone stay home and save lives – Then feign outrage that the public is resisting you orders, which is only permitted if they are protesting some progressive cause du jour.
Mark Twain was right: “Politicians and diapers should be changed frequently and all for the same reason.”
