The nation’s biggest buyer of Made in America goods and services? The federal government, which buys about $600 billion every year.
“The U.S. spends about $600 billion a year on contracts, and that is money that … can also serve to spur a revitalization of our industrial strength and help to create markets for new technologies,” a senior White House official told Reuters.
“He does not accept the defeatist idea that automation, globalization mean that we can’t have good-paying union jobs here in America,” adding that the E.O. would “make sure that we are using procurement going forward in a way that actually builds domestic capacity, particularly in those areas where we have acute economic or national security needs and vulnerabilities.”
Is this a form of protectionism that Democrats suddenly oppose during the Trump era? The White House stated that it is consistent with the commitments under the World Trade Organizatin (WTO).
Boy, those Biden people in the White House are screwed up. They cancel the Keystone XL pipeline, costing 1,000 + good paying union jobs and the loss of 60,000 additional supporting jobs.
