Will President Joe Biden and the other eco zealots declare war on China?
After the latest announcement from Beijing, it would not be surprising.
The Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on July 2, announcing export controls on two rare earth metals: gallium and germanium, beginning on August 1. The purpose is to “safeguard national security and interests.”
“Export operators should go through export licensing procedures in accordance with relevant regulations, submit an application to the Ministry of Commerce through the provincial commerce department, fill out the application form for export of dual-use items and technologies and submit the following documents,” the ministry said in a statement.
Why does this matter? These rare earth minerals are essential for producing everything from electric vehicles to solar panels to defense weapons, mainly because they are found in semiconductors, small electronic devices, and transistors.
