Whoever believed that United States President Donald Trump would be a non-interventionist Commander in Chief? If you did then you may have already been duped.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the president may send troops into Mexico in order to go after the “bad hombres.”
Speaking with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Trump explained to him that the Mexican government isn’t doing enough to combat the “bad hombres,” noting that the nation’s military is scared. He showcased the American bravado by telling Nieto that the U.S. military isn’t.
Here is the excerpt:
“You have a bunch of bad hombres down there. You aren’t doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn’t, so I just might send them down to take care of it.”
After the reports started to surface, the White House told the newswire that the comments were simply “lighthearted” and actually a part of a much broader discussion on how to fight against drug cartels and criminal organizations “collaboratively.”
Perhaps the Mexican leader doesn’t want to wage war against these criminal enterprises. Here is what Breitbart reports:
U.S. news outlets appear to have forgotten that the Juarez Cartel and multiple acts of corruption have been linked to the election of the current Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto. The Mexican president’s ties to cartels, the mysterious release from prison of major cartel figures during his presidency, and the fact that regions of Mexico are under operational control of these paramilitary transnational criminal organizations during his presidency are rarely, if ever, reported in the U.S. The outrageous number of journalists who have been murdered or who have simply disappeared in Peña Nieto’s Mexico is also rarely reported.
Could the world eventually witness U.S. troops on the ground in Tijuana? Yikes. The real solution to stopping the drug cartels is to simply legalize the drugs. That’s all you need to do without risking anymore American or Mexican lives.
This comes as the U.S. president announced that he was in favor of creating safe zones in Syria and Yemen. If true, it could require U.S. military personnel in Syria to create such zones for refugees. However, recent reports suggest that Trump is urging both Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states to not only help establish these safe zones but to also pay for it.
Americans can only hope that U.S. soldiers won’t be stationed in Mexico, Syria and Yemen fighting useless battles.
