President Donald Trump may be in the right direction when dealing with Russia. Perhaps this is the first time that President Vladimir Putin feels confident that a U.S. leader will attempt to improve bilateral relations.
Unfortunately, if President Trump is genuine about peace, his attempts will be futile because of those behind him.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan came out in support of more tariffs on Moscow because of election meddling or something. This means, the U.S. government might try to punish Russia while the president attempts to boost relations.
A similar thing happened last month when the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) was approved. It consisted of several caveats, including more sanctions, a ban on military-to-military cooperation, and greater funding and manpower in Europe to combat Russian “aggression.”
Trump is being undermined on Russia, and it’s a sad state of affairs when peace becomes the enemy.
