In another mixed move, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to freeze pay for federal government workers next year.
The freeze eliminates the 2.1 percent pay raise that was supposed to take effect on January 1 for all federal workers. It also gets rid of the annual adjustment of paychecks based on the region of the nation where workers are located.
He did something similar in one of his very first EOs, but then he quickly scrapped it a few months later.
While this is a positive development, it doesn’t tackle the primary issue: big government.
If he wanted to really drain the swamp, then Trump should just fire half of federal workers, slash the budget, and reduce the size of government. That would save a lot of money and grief.

It’s simplistic to believe Pres. Trump could fire govt employees en masse. The vast majority are unionized. This was quite obviously done decades ago to offset the very concept this article supposes.
