Chris Matthews abruptly retired on Monday night from MSNBC after more than 20 years, sending shockwaves throughout the mainstream media.
“I’m retiring. This is the last ‘Hardball’ on MSNBC, and obviously this isn’t for lack of interest in politics. “A lot of it has to do with how we talk to each other. Compliments on a woman’s appearance, that some men, including me, might have once incorrectly thought were okay, were never okay. Not then and certainly not today.”
Ostensibly, Matthews quit because he is facing a sexual harassment allegation from GQ columnist Laura Bassett, who said the anchor gave her a compliment.
That said, here is the best of Chris Matthews from over the years:
Don’t cry for Matthews. He is worth about $20 million.
